General Assignment Reporter

Southwest Journal is seeking an experienced reporter with a passion for local and community news.

This reporter will join the small newsroom of a family-owned newspaper, which serves the residents of Southwest Minneapolis. Our publication covers city politics, parks, schools, and other local beats. You must be able to respond quickly to developing stories, be passionate about local news, and able to develop a list of strong local contacts.

Advertising Sales Position

We’re looking for an advertising salesperson who will fill our challenging, rewarding position. You'll call businesses, make appointments, and—you guessed it—sell advertising. You'll also gather materials and work with our design team to create print and digital ads that help local businesses grow.

We offer a competitive starting salary, changing over to a commission. Our ad salespeople earn from $40k to over $70k per year. We provide health, dental, and retirement benefits, plus a great working environment in downtown Minneapolis.

Our editorial internships involve a minimum of 8 to 20 hours a week during business hours at our downtown Minneapolis office, 1115 Hennepin Ave. Our internships are not paid positions - though we hope your experiences will pay serious professional dividends.
